Your Community in Need

It’s been six years since Plumstead Township residents and officials launched a community-based emergency care fund to help residents in need with basic requirements such as short-term cash assistance for medications and rent, as well as facilitating the donation of food, clothing, and other essentials.

In coordination with Groveland Elementary School, the Township Community Care Fund is managed with the cooperation of both the Police Department and a group of citizens. During the past year the Care Fund has assisted more than a dozen families address emergencies such as fire or financial disasters, according to Police Chief Duane Hasenauer.

The Care Fund’s coffers are low this season because of the increased call for assistance this winter. “With the holiday season and cold weather upon us, we have a greater need,” Chief Hasenauer said.  “There are many more local residents in need of assistance with fuel and electricity bills than there has been in past years.  Partial assistance is all we can provide but it is still a big help.”

If you can offer financial assistance to the Care Fund this year, please make checks payable to “Plumstead Township Community Care Fund” and mail to PO Box 387, Plumsteadville PA 18949.  Donations of any amount are gratefully accepted. To donate canned goods, call Michelle Beers at 215-766-3818.  For further information about the Care Fund and how it works, call Chief Hasenauer at 215-766-8741.
